Advanced Blender since 2023

Blender is a thread through a lot of my work. I teach Advanced 3D Blender and Python scripting, including procedural generation, and I use the same habits in games: models come from scripts and a description file, not from hand-tweaked files, so anyone can rebuild, review and change them.

Beyond project work I keep a library of community models (rigs, MMD models, fan art) that I open to study topology, materials and rigging. They belong to their creators, so none of them appear on this site.

What it does

The parts worth talking about

Scripted from start to finish

Headless Blender 4.4 runs build scripts against an `assets.json` description and produces the `.blend` source, the FBX export and a generated Luau manifest. A model is a recipe, not a one-off file.

An asset contract

Units, naming, polygon budgets, export settings and an acceptance checklist are written down once, so a model that meets the contract drops into the game without rework.

Procedural crops and trees

The game's crops, a mango tree and hair and clip pieces for its NPCs are generated from code. The render on this page is the crop set, rebuilt by script whenever the recipe changes.

Cheap on purpose

Painted meshes default to vertex colours instead of image textures, which keeps materials simple enough for phones, and every model has a polygon budget it has to fit.

Models for Minecraft too

The Minecraft server's custom mobs and bosses use Blockbench models driven by ModelEngine, so the same modelling skills carry across both games.

Teaching it

In class I teach advanced Blender and Python scripting, including procedural generation: loops, rules and randomness that build geometry instead of placing it by hand.
